The Mastercard Foundation, in collaboration with Arizona State University (ASU), will give graduate scholarships to teach 120 young African professionals at the master’s level for various programs during a five-year period (2025- 2030).
This is a two-year, completely immersive master’s program on campus that focuses on technology and innovation. Recognizing the rapid expansion of the global digital economy, this initiative seeks to provide African youth with the skills and knowledge required to lead in fields such as technology and sustainable innovation.
(30) scholarships are available for students enrolled for the 2025/2026 academic year, covering full tuition, lodging expenses, and full support for the two-year graduate program.
In addition to financial assistance, The students will participate in activities as part of the larger Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at ASU, such as leadership coursework, individual mentoring, and other events and programs.
While classes are in session, Scholars can work part-time in on-campus employment, either with the Mangrove Network community or in the larger community.
Students will be sponsored to participate in a two-month Africa-based internship that is relevant to their program of study between the first and second years.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Program expects participants to return to their home countries and apply their new knowledge and abilities in their country’s social and economic development.
Women, refugees, and those with disabilities are given special opportunities to apply. Arizona State University is committed to improving students’ educational experiences by ensuring that all programs and services are accessible.
Conditions for eligibility
- Applicants must be academically qualified for admission to the degree of their choosing, which includes English proficiency.
- Applicants must be African citizens who are committed to ethical leadership and have exhibited community participation.
- Applicants must be age 18 to 33 on or before the application deadline.
- Applicants must have a demonstrated history of community leadership and service.
- Applicants must demonstrate academic proficiency and objectives that transcend their financial resources.
- Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree by July 2025.
- Applicants must not have begun or finished any previous graduate or master’s degrees before August 2025.
- Applicants must be able to live in Phoenix, Arizona throughout the program.

Benefits of the Scholarship

- Full tuition, books, and fees.

- Participation in funding schemes for scholarships
Awards are tenable for the duration of the graduate program of study.
Deadline for all Applications
The deadline for all applications is 11:59 GMT on Sunday, November 3rd. All applicants must first apply for the scholarship, and if approve, they will be aided in applying for admission to Arizona State University. Scholarship interviews by video or phone call will take place in November 2024, with final decisions issued by late January 2025. All selected applicants will come to Phoenix, Arizona, to begin the Program in August 2025.

Arizona State University and the Mastercard Foundation reserve the right to cancel incomplete and/or late applications, change the scholarship terms, or make no offers at all. Admission to the academic program does not guarantee a scholarship.
